Austin Butler stepped in to help his co-stars, Emma Stone and Pedro Pascal, at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of their new film Eddington on Friday. As the trio made their way down the red carpet, a bee flew into their path. Before it could sting Pascal or Stone, Butler blew the insect away. Crisis averted! Her white backless frock came with a ribbed statement collar, which was reportedly inspired by traditional French café uniforms. A similar design debuted on the runway during Vuitton's fall 2023 presentation. Butler, meanwhile, chose a traditional tux, and Pascal suited up in a monochromatic look. Directed by Ari Aster, it also stars Joaquin Phoenix and Luke Grimes. On Monday, festival organizers announced that Cannes's dress code would be getting an update. Cannes's charter now includes the following language: "For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as in any other area of the festival. Voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theater are not permitted,” it reads. "The festival welcoming teams will be obligated to prohibit red carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules.” In previous years, stars including Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, and Ashley Graham have favored barely-there fabrics and massive trains at the weeklong festival, which officially started Tuesday.
