This Is How Marchesa Makes the Sheer Trend Work for Brides
There's no escaping the sheer trend. It's taken over the red carpet, the runways (across all four of the major fashion capitals, we might add), and now, the aisles. For Marchesa's fall 2017 wedding dress collection, designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig looked to Eos, the Greek goddess of the dawn, for inspiration. Translated, that resulted into a 13-look lineup of ethereal designs featuring intricate floral embroideries, fluttery sleeves, Chantilly lace layers—and varying levels of opacity.
"We took spring 2017 runway ideas and fed that through into bridal wear," Chapman explains, noting the increased demand for sheer. "I think brides are pushing out of the box and looking for something a little less traditional. Something sexier—dresses that are more sheer."
So how should the Marchesa bride embrace see-through wedding dresses? "Go sheer, but don't be naked," Craig says, pointing out the ivory dresses with illusion panels, delicate tulle layers over nude layers. "You can look as if you're sheer, but be totally covered—it's the power of the lining!"
