The problem with contouring is that it's easy to overdo it. Yes, it can look just as dramatic as the makeup you see on Instagram, but there's also a more natural way to define your best features. According to Rizzieri, one of the biggest mistakes people make when contouring is choosing the wrong color. To avoid this, she recommends a shade with an ashy undertone rather than a warm one. Another common error: Applying makeup on the hollows of your cheeks as a stripe. She says to use the tragus of your ear as an anchor, and move the brush downward in a swooping motion.
