How to Do a Messy Ponytail in 5 Easy Steps
For those mornings when you “can’t even” with doing your hair, a messy ponytail is your solution. It’s a simple style that can be done in five minutes flat with minimal effort.
The only problem? Depending on how you pull up your hair, the updo can look like literal bedhead. That’s why we turned to celebrity hairstylist Frank Rizzieri for his tips on how to style a ponytail that’s intentionally messy, but still polished.
Another perk of the messy pony is that no hot tools are needed (Yes, really!). The only things you need to do the look on textured, second day hair is your hands, a hair elastic, and two products: a can of dry shampoo such as Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk ($20; sephora.com) to add a bit of volume, and a lightweight hairspray like L’Oreal Paris Elnett Satin Hold All Day Volume Hairspray ($15; ulta.com) to control flyaways.
