Charlize Theron has had some experience playing for the other team.

The actress was a guest on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Sunday night, and she chatted with the host about testing out the “lady pond” in her youth.

“When you’re young, you’re just kind of exploring it all,” Theron said.

The conversation was spurred by a fan calling in to ask why it was so important that Theron’s character in the upcoming film Atomic Blonde be bisexual.

And for Theron, the answer is as simple as “Why not?”

“It’s something that I feel is not represented enough in cinema, and I feel that when you make movies, if you’re gonna hold that mirror up and reflect society, then you should reflect society,” Theron said.

In Atomic Blonde, Theron stars as Lorraine Broughton, a MI6 agent sent off to Berlin during the Cold War on a deadly mission.

So while Theron’s character may play with her sexuality in the film, Theron’s exploration really did end back in her day.

“It was pretty clear that I really liked dudes,” she said.

Since ending her two-year relationship with Sean Penn in 2015, Theron has been enjoying the single life, as People previously reported. But, as a single mom to her son Jackson and daughter August, she is definitely taking things slow.

“Once you have children, that’s who you are. There’s no way around that. That’s who I am,” she said.

Atomic Blonde comes to theaters July 28.
