How Cardi B's Makeup Artist Turns Lip Glosses Into Matte Lipsticks
For beauty lovers the internet is a treasure trove of makeup hacks. From using Post-It notes to create a unique eyeshadow look to cleaning your BeautyBlender in the microwave, there’s no end to genius tricks to explore. One of the most recent examples: a new lipstick hack straight from Cardi B’s makeup artist, Erika La’ Pearl.
In a video for Allure, La’ Pearl breaks down a number of Cardi B’s most memorable beauty looks and reveals an inspired technique she employed while doing the singer’s makeup for the 2018 Met Gala. She tells Allure: "That day, I didn't have any matte lipstick, I had glossy lips. She wanted her lips to be extra matte. So my trick, I like to take some setting powder and blot it and it'll matte it out and it lasts the whole day."
The next time you only have glosses around, this is an easy way to change your look without having to hunt for another lipstick. This trick will also come in handy if you want to turn her fave lip gloss shade into a matte lipstick.
Looking at Cardi’s lipstick at the 2018 Met Gala, you would never know that the lip color was originally a gloss. It’s beautifully pigmented and looks identical to a liquid lippie. This is one trick we’ll definitely be copying in the near future.
Erika La’ Pearl also shared more insight on a few of Cardi’s iconic beauty looks, including her makeup for the “I Like It” music video. La’ Pearl told Allure that she used lipstick as eyeliner to get the pink-winged liner look for Cardi B’s makeup.
For the bottom lashes, La’ Pearl added an individual false lash for a more sultry look. And when it comes to contouring, the makeup artist revealed she likes to use a debit card to make Cardi’s contour really nice and sharp.
