Amy Schumer Will No Longer Portray Real-Life Barbie
Amy Schumer won’t be bringing Barbie to life after all.
The actress and comedian has dropped out of Sony’s live-action movie based on the iconic Mattel doll, EW has confirmed.
In a statement to Variety, which first reported the news, Schumer said, “Sadly, I’m no longer able to commit to Barbie due to scheduling conflicts. The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I’m bummed, but look forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen.”
Schumer boarded the project in December and recently polished the script, which is by Hilary Winston. A director has yet to be named.
Sony has been developing the property for several years, with the goal being a new take on the 50-year-old brand that will tackle issues like female empowerment and what it means to be perfect. The Barbie movie is currently slated to hit theaters June 29, 2018.
