The Friends Reunion Will Include an Iconic Set Piece
UPDATE 5/19/21: The first full trailer for the Friends reunion special is here, with brand-new footage. HBO Max has released a two-minute preview featuring the original cast, gathering on a recreation of the iconic set, playing a trivia game about the show, doing a table read, and sharing memories of starring on the show together.
UPDATE 05/13/21: HBO Max has given us the first look at the Friends reunion, in the form of a very ambiguous teaser trailer. The clip, which is 40 seconds long, ostensibly shows the cast from behind, walking arm-in-arm in what looks like a studio lot.
The teaser also shows the title of the special: The One Where They Get Back Together. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the special was directed by Ben Winston, and features a stacked list of guest stars: David Beckham, Justin Bieber, BTS, James Corden, Cindy Crawford, Cara Delevingne, Lady Gaga, Elliott Gould, Kit Harington, Larry Hankin, Mindy Kaling, Thomas Lennon, Christina Pickles, Tom Selleck, James Michael Tyler, Maggie Wheeler, Reese Witherspoon and Malala Yousafzai.
The reunion will air on May 27.
After months of delays and speculation, the Friends reunion has finally been filmed. Last week, the special was filmed over three days and will include some familiar props and set pieces, like the famous fountain from the show's opening credits. According to TMZ, the fountain will be featured in the special.
The special was filmed at the same sound stage on the Warner Bros. Studios lot in L.A., where the original show was filmed with a live audience, which consisted mostly of non-union, Covid-screened extras, according to TMZ.
All of your favorite original Friends — Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc — participated in the reunion filming. Perry actually posted a snapshot of him in the makeup chair to his Instagram that was soon deleted. According to Daily Mail it read, "Seconds before eating a makeup brush. Not to mention reuniting with my Friends."
While we don't know too much about the special, it will be more of a conversation between the actors, who will not be in character, though Schwimmer hinted on the Graham Norton Show that there could be one scripted portion of the show.
''I'll be David," he said. "Nothing is scripted and we are not in character. We are all ourselves, although there is one section of it that I don't want to give away, but we all read something."
Well, we couldn't BE more excited to finally see this long-awaited reunion.
