Everything to Know About Bridgerton Season 2

Dear reader, it is with great pleasure and excitement that this author announces the forthcoming return of one of Netflix's horniest shows: Bridgerton. Season 2 is practically upon us, which means it is in your best interest to fetch new dresses from the modiste to prepare for your homecoming to the Ton.

The Regency drama, executive produced by Shonda Rhimes and based on the best-selling book series by Julia Quinn, premiered back in December 2020 and introduced us to the Regé-Jean Page, the Duke of Hastings (and quite honestly, the reason we binged all eight steamy episodes in one sitting). Since then, we have been waiting with bated breath for the hit show's second season. And while we will certainly miss the duke, with his booming voice and handsome face (among other things), this season's leading man — Anthony Bridgerton, played by the dreamy Jonathan Bailey — will not disappoint.

Read on for everything you need to know about the newest season, including the release date, cast, and filming location.

What Will Season 2 of Bridgerton Be About?

If you're familiar at all with the Bridgerton novels, then you know each book tells the story of one of the eight Bridgerton kids. Season 1 followed the love story (and sexual awakening) of daughter Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Hastings, the protagonists of The Duke and I.

Season 2, based on the second book, The Viscount Who Loved Me, will turn its attention to Daphne's eldest brother, certified rake (aka F boy) Anthony Bridgerton. Following his heartbreaking split from secret lover and opera singer Siena (Sabrina Bartlett), the viscount is determined to marry for anything but love. He has his sights set on diamond of the season, Edwina Sheffield, until her older sister Kate Sheffield (Simone Ashley) steps in to protect her. But she finds herself entrapped and enthralled by the viscount's charm, leading to passionate chemistry. I'm already burning for this plot line.

Penelope Featherton (aka Lady Whistledown) will also steal some of the focus. Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope, told Entertainment Tonight that this season will be "spicier" for her character. "You definitely see more sides to her. We find out at the end of season 1 [that she's Lady Whistledown], that is there, but we don't get to explore it. But the world cracks open. I feel like the Bridgerton world has grown and you're going to see a lot more sides to her. She's a sassy chick."

Is There a Trailer for Bridgerton Season 2?

Netflix released an official teaser narrated by Julie Andrews (the voice of Lady Whistledown) on Valentine's Day. The minute-long trailer captures the return of Lady Whistledown and a new season for the members of the London high society to find love.

On March 9, Netflix shared an official trailer, which shows just how much of the season will be focused on Anthony Bridgerton. Caution: get some water ready, because this is hot.

Who Is in Bridgerton Season 2?

Page will not be reprising his role as the duke — though he has teased a potential cameo. Regardless, Anthony Bridgerton (Bailey) will be serving as this season's eye candy (a title he definitely lives up to). Other characters returning include Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh), Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie), Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson), Penelope Featherington (Coughlan), and more.

Newcomers Kate and Edwina Sharma (based on the book's Sheffield sisters) will make their debut, played by the aforementioned Ashley and Charithra Chandran, respectively. Kate will serve as Anthony's love interest, but don't expect smooth sailing for these two. Per Elle, during Netflix's TUDUM event in Sept. 2021, Ashley said to anticipate "a lot of arguing. They challenge each other."

Netflix proved just that by posting a video to Twitter of the lovers's first meeting, filled with bickering and insults.

Where Was Bridgerton Season 2 Filmed?

Bridgerton takes place in a Regency-era London. Like the first season, it filmed in London, as well as other cities in the U.K., like Bath and Yorkshire. After a few setbacks and halts in production thanks to COVID, they officially wrapped filming of season 2 in Nov. 2021.

Showrunner Chris Van Dusen posted an Instagram commemorating the end of filming with a photo of himself, Bailey, and Ashley.

What Is the Release Date for Bridgerton Season 2?

The show will be available for streaming on Netflix on March 25, 2022.
