The Awards season rat race continues this month, with a number of heavy hitters like Viola Davis, Nicole Kidman and Emma Stone all gracing the silver screen. Not only are the awards contenders coming in hot, but some holiday favorites are also ready for their debut. A re-imagining of Dr. Seuss' classic The Grinch, as well as a big-screen adaptation of the classic ballet The Nutcracker starring prima ballerina Misty Copeland will premiere just in time for a turkey trot over to your friendly neighborhood multiplex. Everyone knows and loves this classic Dr. Seuss tale about the grumpy Grinch who plots to ruin Christmas for all the Whos in Whoville. Benedict Cumberbatch voices the diabolical Grinch. 05 of 11 The Girl in the Spider's Web Reiner Bajo/Sony Nov. 9 Cyber criminals and corrupt government officials take center stage in this new installment in the Dragon Tattoo series. This time Claire Foy plays hacker Lisbeth Salander, on her latest mission to steal a top secret computer program that can access nuclear codes. 06 of 11 Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald Courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures Nov. 16 Nothing says holidays quite like a little wizardry. The second installment of the Fantastic Beasts series set in the fantasy world of J.K. Rowling's making sees Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne) helping to foil the evil plans of Gellert Grindelwald (played by Johnny Depp). 07 of 11 Widows Merrick Morton/Twentieth Century Fox Nov. 16 We're calling it now: this is the badass women film of the month! It follows four widows whose late husbands left each of them indebted to criminals. But these ladies aren't damsels in distress — they're ready to do whatever it takes to release themselves from the bondage they inherited from their husbands' criminal behavior. Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki and Cynthia Erivo star. 08 of 11 Creed II Barry Wetcher/Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures Nov. 21 Adonis Creed is back to defend his hard-earned title, only his latest challenger is the son of the man who killed his father in the ring decades ago. Michael B. Jordan reprises his role as the title character, as does Sylvester Stallone as his mentor, Rocky Balboa. 09 of 11 Robin Hood Larry Horricks/Lionsgate Nov. 21 Taron Egerton tries his hand as the sword-wielding English crusader in this adaptation of the legendary folktale. Follow Robin Hood and his band of goons as they lead a revolt against the tyrannical crown. Jamie Foxx, Jamie Dornan and Eve Hewson also star. 10 of 11 The Favourite Yorgos Lanthimos/Twentieth Century Fox Nov. 23 Perhaps the oldest tale of frenemies in recorded history, this one tells the story of the sickly English Queen Anne (played by Olivia Colman), her friend and surrogate Lady Sarah (played by Rachel Weisz) and the new servant girl Abigail (played by Emma Stone) working her way into the fold. You'll hear a lot about this one come awards season. 11 of 11 If Beale Street Could Talk Courtesy Annapurna Pictures Nov. 30 On the heels of his big 2016 Moonlight win, Barry Jenkins is back with another moving depiction of the African American experience in the United States, this time adapting the famous James Baldwin novel for the big screen. Newcomer KiKi Layne plays Tish, a woman in 1970's Harlem dealing with the aftershock of her fiancé being arrested for a crime he didn't commit. Stephan James plays the falsely accused Fonny Hunt, while the mighty Regina King stars as Tish's mother, Sharon.
