These Videos of Teachers Inspiring Students Will Melt Your Heart

Gap is giving us all the feels. Its new “Forward with” campaign celebrating back-to-school season (and a new collection) was introduced in tandem with a short film series spotlighting various teachers and mentors inspiring their students and basically bringing Dead Poets Society to life.

These community leaders will get you choked up, as you watch them help kids develop a deeper understanding of confidence, focus, creativity, and kindness in unconventional ways.

The first video, “Forward with Confidence,” (below) features third grade teacher Jasmyn Wright. She’s taught her students to believe in themselves by repeating mantras about confidence and achievement.

The next, “Forward with Focus,” spotlights meditation mentor Andres Gonzalas, who co-founded the Holistic Life Foundation, a Baltimore-born non-profit that introduces kids to yoga, meditation, mindfulness, and self-care. Check out his video below.

Art instructor Sasha Sicurella is the focus of Gap’s third video, shown below, called, “Forward with Creativity.” She founded the I AM: International Foundation, a global nonprofit that gives kids the chance to express themselves through self-portraits and photography.

InStyle premiered the final video “Forward with Kindness” last week, which is a partnership between the major motion picture Wonder (starring Jacob Tremblay, Julia Roberts, and Owen Wilson) and author R.J. (Raquel) Palacio who wrote the book that inspired the movie.

Palacio told InStyle that she was thrilled to collaborate with Gap on this campaign: “I think it really channels the book’s and the film’s message of kindness. The campaign is about preparing kids to advance their passions by giving them the confidence and support they need. I think that’s brave and bold of them.”

In addition to the short films, Gap Kids is joining Lionsgate’s #ChooseKind movement along with co-producer Walden Media and Random House Children’s Books, leading up to Wonder’s release on Nov. 17. Running through April 2018, their initiative called, “Wonder Certified Kind Classroom," will teach ideas of acting on kindness, acceptance, and inclusion to students in third through sixth grades.

On Nov. 13, World Kindness Day, select Gap Kids stores will feature #ChooseKind T-Shirts emblazoned with visual representations of kindness, specially designed by students who participated in the program. Hundreds of participating classrooms will also get the chance to win a Gap-sponsored Wonder screening and virtually meet some of the film’s cast.

The back-to-school bar has officially been raised.
