Don't Look Up is quickly shaping up to be the blockbuster event of the year. With a ridiculously star-studded cast, an award-winning director, and dark humor, the film is practically formulated to be a smash hit and at the helm of next year's awards season.

The dangerously funny part about the movie is that it is totally realistic, relatable, and hits a little too close to home and our modern climate crisis. While we know it's about the impending end of the world, we were not given too many other plot points in the ambiguous teaser trailer. So, we broke down all the things you need to know about Netflix's highly anticipated Don't Look Up.

What Is Don't Look Up About?

Based on what we know, the movie — which was written, produced, and directed by Oscar-winning director Adam McKay (The Big Short, Anchorman) — appears to be a satirical approach to tackling the climate crisis, but with a heavy comedic slant. When an astronomy student and her professor discover an approaching asteroid that threatens to destroy Earth, they set out to warn the world of its impending doom through a global media tour.

But much to the duo's dismay — and little to our surprise — no one seems to care or take their warnings seriously, even authority figures (sound familiar?).

Who Stars in Don't Look Up?

The easier question to answer would be "who is not in this movie." The cast is stacked with A-listers you'd only dream of seeing in the same movie (ahem, Leo and Ari). Not that we're complaining; the all-star cast is what makes this movie so intriguing.

The aforementioned science student will be played by Jennifer Lawrence, with her anxious professor played by Leonardo DiCaprio. The iconic Meryl Streep will portray a dismissive U.S. president (though it is nice to see a woman in that role), accompanied by her obnoxious and arrogant son and chief-of-staff, played by Jonah Hill.

And we're just getting started, because the rest of the cast includes, Ariana Grande, Rob Morgan, Timothée Chalamet, Scott Mescudi (Kid Cudi), Cate Blanchet, Tyler Perry, Mark Rylance, Himshel Patel, Melanie Lynskey, Michael Chiklis, Tomer Sisley, and Paul Guilfoyle. Oh, and according to Nylon, McKay said Chris Evans will also make a cameo. So, where can one buy tickets?

Where Was Don't Look Up Filmed?

The movie was filmed during a three-month period in Massachusetts — in and around Boston, as well as Canton, Chicopee, Fall River, North Attleborough, Norton, Salisbury, Westborough, Weymouth, and Worcester, according to The Boston Globe.

When Will Don't Look Up Be Released?

The movie will hit select theaters on December 10, 2021, before becoming available to stream exclusively on Netflix on December 24, 2021.
