The Squad Just Gained a New Member
Despite the congressional elections being over, The Squad managed to welcome another new member to Capitol Hill this week. Meet Teddy — Representative Ilhan Omar's three-month-old yellow Labrador, who has joined his mom in Washington, D.C.
On Friday, Teddy made his debut on Twitter when Axios reporter Kadia Goba shared a sweet photo of the pup seated on a marble floor. "Meet Teddy, Rep. Ilhan Omar's 3-month-old yellow lab," Goba tweeted.
Shortly after, Omar confirmed the news that she adopted a new canine companion, retweeting Goba's original post alongside a snapshot of herself holding Teddy's leash on the steps of what appears to be the Capitol building.
"Teddy goes to Washington," she wrote.
As it turns out, Teddy isn't the only furry constituent of The Squad. Last year, representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez adopted a French bulldog, Deco, and tweeted her plans to train him to become a "community pup." A month later, Deco joined AOC at the office, and met fellow Squad member Ayanna Pressley.
"Making the Capitol better one puppy snuggle at a time: @AOC & Deco," Pressley previously tweeted.
This year, The Squad won re-election, and welcomed two more members: Democratic representatives Cori Bush — the first Black congresswoman in Missouri — and Jamaal Bowman, who defeated a 16-term incumbent to represent New York's 16th district. Looks like it is all hands (and paws) on deck.
