Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is sharing her entire beauty routine — including the signature red lipstick we all know and love. On Friday, the congresswoman was featured in a video from Vogue, in which she walked viewers through her skincare and makeup steps, just before embarking on her duties in the House of Representatives. "The reason why I think it's so important to share these things is that, first of all, femininity has power, and in politics there is so much criticism and nitpicking about how women and femme people present ourselves," she said. "Just being a woman is quite politicized here in Washington…. There's this really false idea that if you care about makeup or if your interests are in beauty and fashion, that that's somehow frivolous. But I actually think these are some of the most substantive decisions that we make—and we make them every morning." In the video, Ocasio-Cortez can be seen putting on toner, vitamin C serum, moisturizer, and a "generous" amount of SPF. "I have not gotten much sleep last night at all," she said at one point. "Welcome to life in politics. We are trying to get people health care, making sure that they are taken care of in a pandemic, people are fighting too much, and so I have bags under my eyes." AOC Gave the Details on the Makeup She Wore During Her DNC Speech She also shared her tips for putting on a red lip (a stain, in her case, to avoid having to do touchups all day long). "I start in the low-risk zone, actually," she said, applying the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in "Beso" to the middle of her bottom lip. "I start small and I start working my way out." Sharing the video on Twitter, she wrote, "Happy Friday! Beauty is political. Thanks @voguemagazine for a conversation on what it means to work a red lip on Capitol Hill." All in a day's work.
