In the early 2000s, a red-haired Kirsten Dunst starred opposite Tobey Maguire as Mary Jane Watson in the Spider-Man trilogy before Emma Stone reprised the iconic role in 2012 with real-life boyfriend Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-Man.

Now, it has been revealed that Zendaya Coleman is the latest actress slated to play Peter Parker's love interest in the upcoming film Spider-Man: Homecoming.

On Thursday, The Wrap reported that the film's leading lady has been cast, and that none other than the 19-year-old Disney Channel star has been chosen to star alongside British actor Tom Holland, who will play a teenage Spider-Man.

Previous reports had confirmed that the teen actress would star as a mystery character with the code name "Michelle." The Sony/Marvel reboot hits theaters next summer, and the storyline will focus on a high school-aged Spidey, but details about the rest of the film and other casting choices has been slim.

The highly anticipated superhero film will be released on July 7, 2017.
