This was supposed to be the year of organized, gloriously executed, home-cooked meals, yet we’ve somehow eaten delivery eight times in the past week alone. In our defense, meal preparation presents a few obstacles, including finding recipes and shopping efficiently—which is why we’re letting an app do the work for us.

Using Yummly (free on iTunes and Google Play), the app arm of the website of the same name, home cooks can find, save, and share the perfect recipe (thanks to filters like holiday, cuisine, cook time, and diet), and even choose a dish based on what ingredients they already have in their kitchen.

All of the recipes, which are culled from food websites and blogs, come with ready-to-go shopping lists, making trips to the market a breeze. Plus, you can save dishes you stumble across online to your virtual recipe box using the company's bookmark extension. So no more excuses—step away from the take-out menu and get cooking!
