Gillian Anderson Discusses Her Character's Style Evolution Ahead of The X-Files Return
After 13 years off the air, The X-Files will return to TV with six new episodes this month, with stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny returning to play their iconic characters. “I feel like we didn’t end on the right note before,” Anderson told InStyle at The Weinstein Company and Netflix Golden Globes after-party. “I feel like we’re giving the audience something that they wanted for a long time, which is actually more than what we could have given them in a single feature.”
Thirteen years is a long time, and much has changed in the world of fashion. So how will Dana Scully’s style evolve? Anderson brought on board the costume designer from Hannibal to bring Scully’s “limited” wardrobe into the next decade. “I like the direction that she’s at. It’s very classic,” Anderson said. The designer respected “the demure aspects of her wardrobe” and still managed to have fun with the character’s style.
Anderson’s chic personal style was on display last night at the Globes, as she wowed in a tiered gold Burberry gown with a plunging neckline. She completed the look with drop earrings, gold bangles, and a black clutch.
We can’t wait to see what’s up next for her character when The X-Files returns to Fox on Jan. 24. Bring yourselves up to speed on where the series left off and what you can expect in the forthcoming miniseries in a 21-minute-long featurette here (spoiler alert).
