Theory: This Game of Thrones Character Moonlights As Morocco’s World Cup Coach
We interrupt our regular programming to bring you this very important sports update. Well, it's kind of about sports. (OK fine, it's about a hot man.)
At the 2018 FIFA World Cup match on Wednesday, the focus of a few audience members (ourselves included...) was momentarily drawn not by the action on the field as Portugal and Morocco duked it out, but on the sidelines. And it's fully because of Morocco's head coach, Hervé Renard.
Renard is an accomplished former player and current manager who was the first coach to win two Africa Cup of Nations with different countries ... and he also looks like he came straight out of Game of Thrones. Or a romance novel cover. Or both? Unclear, can't seem to focus while looking at these pics for some reason.
This wasn't a legitimate World Cup x Game of Thrones crossover (though seriously, how cool would that be?), but fans around the world agreed that it sure looked like Jaime Lannister and/or Fabio had taken the field when Renard stepped out for the first time.
He even managed to pull off the "no socks" look, as CNN helpfully pointed out.
Aanndd he may or may not have looked like a Shrek character while at it.
Hey, the comparisons aren't too far-fetched. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau—the actor behind Jaime Lannister himself—once refereed a soccer tournament in the name of gender equality.

Either way, he's bringing out the inner soccer (or "football" if you like to be wrong) fan in all of us. Go team!
