More than 22 years after Winona Ryder and Ethan Hawke won us over with their love-hate banter in Reality Bites, the former co-stars relationship has changed to all love. At Monday night’s Gotham Awards, Ryder presented Hawke with a special tribute after his work on the Chet Baker biopic, Born to Be Blue.
“It’s incredibly special to me because he means a lot to me as a friend and an actor,” she told Variety before the awards show. “These are things that are often said about actors when they’re praising actors, but I really, honestly, from the bottom of my heart mean it. I just love him in a very, very deep way and I’m very excited for him.”
Her excitement definitely came off on stage, when she welcomed her former onscreen love interest with a smooch before presenting him with the honor. Ryder stunned in a black gown, while Hawke appropriately rocked a navy blue suit.
