While dodging frantic stage hands and waiters delivering trays of desserts, Streiber was able to capture many unseen moments—from a triumphant Jennifer Lawrence walking off with her statue to Lupita Nyong’o and Chiwetel Ejiofor sharing a laugh (while Johnny Depp squeezes by behind them). Trust us, these are some photos you will not want to miss. A 14-year veteran of capturing award shows with his cameras, Streiber was struck by how different the Globes are from other shows. “I’ve shot the Academy Awards for the last 14 years and this is my first Golden Globes," he told InStyle.com exclusively. "They’re really, really different." How so? “The Globes are like homeroom in eighth grade and the Oscars are like a very serious physics class," he explained. "The minute there’s a commercial break, (celebrities are) up out of their seats. They’re at the bar and seeing friends they haven’t seen in forever.” While it’s hard to choose from the bevy of glamorous shots Streiber captured Sunday night, some of our favorite images are the quiet, candid moments of the actors in the midst of the chaos. “The wings of these award shows are, to me, one of the last places where you get these quiet, intimate moments that we seem to have a lot of from the ‘40s, ‘50s, and ‘60s, but not so much of these days," Streiber said. "Whenever these guys are photographed it’s very controlled and stage-managed, and so seeing them candidly in their ball gowns and tuxedos and capturing a quiet moment is kind of awesome.” His favorite “quiet moment” from the night? It’s an easy question to answer, especially since it features two Hollywood legends. “It’s the shot of Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts in the dining room on a commercial break. They have huge smiles on their faces and are in the middle of the room and Julie’s husband is offering to pour Taylor Swift some more champagne—it’s an Old Hollywood moment.” See all of Streiber's backstage photos at the 2014 Golden Globes in our gallery.
