It seems like every day honors a different food. Yesterday was International Beer Day. Today is National Zucchini Day. Tomorrow? National Rice Pudding Day (who knew?). Each 24-hour culinary celebration ranges from the familiar (National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day) to the slightly bizarre (National Julienne Fries Day. Yes, it exists). 

Before our calendars spin out of control, we decided to solicit an expert's opinion, and who better than superstar chef Bobby Flay? "I'm a supporter," he recently told InStyle at Naked Juice's event to raise hunger awareness at the Refinery Hotel in N.Y.C. "I do think it's a little crazy, though. I don't pay attention to every single day, but some inspire me to be more inventive in the kitchen."

The proof is in the Instagrams. Last year, Flay celebrated National Watermelon Day with his beloved cat, Nacho (pictured above). "I think he did a watermelon shot!" he added. "In some ways [food holidays] can be slightly commercial, but so what? If it's going to inspire someone to pick up a watermelon or make a margarita, why not?" We wholeheartedly agree.
