We Tried It: A Makeup Mirror That Recreates Your Favorite Selfie
You know that nook in your workspace where the light reflects off the windows just so? Here at InStyle, we’ve dubbed ours the “Instagram corner,” since the resulting lighting makes for ultra-flattering selfies.
And now, thanks to a next-level mirror by Simplehuman, we can recreate that same glow at home. By way of a complementary smartphone app, the brand’s new Wide-View Sensor Mirror ($400; simplehuman.com) is able to scan your favorite selfie and project the same lighting through your mirror. We snapped a pic in the aforementioned office corner, imported it through the app, faced the glass—which had adjusted to mimic that same light—and took another picture in front of the mirror. Amazingly, the device successfully managed to copy the original lighting conditions, producing an equally-flattering selfie.
Should you opt out of the app portion, the mirror is still pretty impressive on its own. It lights up automatically when it senses a user approach, self-adjusting to project natural sunlight. (This allows for the brightest, most color-correct view of your skin.) At $400, it’s no small investment—though we'd argue you can hardly put a price on the perfect selfie.
