Was Hot Then: April 2005
Flashback! Each Friday, we’re taking a look back at the trends, beauty, music, and cover stars that were all the rage in years past. This week: Get nostalgic for April 2005 as we reminisce about Brad & Angelina, a throwback home tour, a floral fashion moment, and more.
Moment in Time: Angie, Brad and Maddox Hit the Beach in KenyaThey may have fallen in love during the filming of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, but it wasn't until a romantic three-day getaway in a villa on Diani Beach that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were revealed to the world as a couple. Their reps denied it, but the spark was undeniable---and thus 'Brangelina' was born.
InStyle Cover Star: Sandra BullockThe Miss Congeniality star graced our April 2005 cover and opened up about her life as actress, producer, and philanthropist. The fun-loving star's secret desire? Simply learning to let go. "Once I stopped having a grand plan, everything got better," Bullock said (the notoriously private celeb was dating Monster Garage host Jesse James at the time of this interview). The star also turned 40 that year, but didn't pay the number much mind. "I wouldn't go backward if you paid me," she told us.
Fashion Fixture: Floral EverythingIn our April 2005 issue, we turned the spotlight on florals in favored fabrics---sheers, chiffon and organza---along with leafy tops and strappy sandals, adding new meaning to the phrase "full bloom."
Best Beauty Buy: Giorgio Armani FoundationEach year, we round up over 150 of the best new beauty products on the market (and some recurring all-stars). While the list has changed a lot in the last decade, one product keeps bubbling up: Giorgio Armani's Luminous Silk Liquid Foundation. Lush yet lightweight, the 2005 Best Beauty Buy winner provides a sheer texture in 23 shades and delivers a dewy finish. Check back on April 17th to see if it topped our list again when we reveal our 2015 picks.
House Tour: Carmen Electra and Dave NavarroCarmen Electra and her rocker husband, Dave Navarro, went domestic on us (albeit just for a little while) and opened up the doors of their artfully attired L.A. home to InStyle. But don't be distracted by all the tattoos or the vast collection of stilettos. "We're really homebodies," said Electra. "We get excited about staying in, ordering some food, and watching a movie. It's our alone time."
Guilty Pleasures: Ellen DeGeneresWe chatted with TV's funniest chat queen about her favorite things---from her top cocktail ("That's like asking a mother to choose which is her favorite!") to her number one cheesy movie. "I'm a fan of all the Kraft Singles commericals---if only they could make them feature length." And as for her go-to Karaoke song? "Anything by Rush!".
