This summer we're smoothie-obsessed. We're ditching high-sugar drinks and heavy-chemical sips in favor of bursting-with-vitamins smoothies.

In our June issue, we begged smoothie master Alex Vandermark (owner of The Juicery in Portsmouth, New Hampshire) to teach us how to make his Pine-Ango-Beet-Tango, a yummy brew of tropical fruits, strawberries, and beets. The vitamin-dense concoction is perfect for gym rats since root vegetables increase energy, stimulate blood flow, and aid in muscle recovery.

Need an extra oomph? Add a tablespoon of flaxseed oil to Vandermark's recipe to deliver a big dose of omega-3 fatty acids, which lower cholesterol, improve memory, and ease joint pain.

Read on for the yummy smoothie recipe to chase your next major gym session.
