Viola Davis Talks About Being "More Than Just an Actress" and Working with Her Husband on Custody
Custody was filmed at a local courthouse in New York City, just minutes from its Tribeca Film Festival premiere at the BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts on Sunday. Co-stars Viola Davis and Catalina Sandino Moreno both arrived to the event sporting Halston looks and for Davis, her black cut-out dress was the perfect pick. "It’s retro. I like A-line, I think it complements me and I love Halston!” she told InStyle.
The actress plays Judge Martha Schulman, but don’t make the mistake of comparing her Schulman to Davis’s Emmy-winning role of Annalise Keating on How to Get Away with Murder, as the two are quite different. “I always say, I play a lawyer and I play a judge in this, but that’s not who they are," the recent InStyle cover girl told us. "It’s like someone saying I want to play Viola Davis so I have to learn how to be an actress. I’m more than just an actress. When I go home, I’m a wife, a mother, a person.”
Davis’s husband Julius Tennon also stars in the film (their production company, JuVee Productions, produced the movie), playing a court officer. So how did the couple spend their downtime when they weren't working on set? “Laughing, eating in our trailer together, those are things we just do. We have fun together!”
