Viola Davis Dishes on Two Secret Weapons for Being Red Carpet-Ready
Viola Davis is celebrating today after taking home the Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama award for her role in Fences at Sunday night's 74th annual Golden Globe Awards. This came after the actress was presented with her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, so it has been quite a month for the talented star.
"You know what, it feels good," Davis revealed to InStyle at our 2017 Golden Globes party. "I usually shrink for moments like this, and it feels almost like I'm ruining my integrity. But tonight, I didn't allow myself to feel that. I allowed myself to feel like I earned it. That 30 years in the business has allowed me to earn it, and being 51. So it feels right and it feels perfect. It feels good." The star is an absolute acting master and she deserved every bit of her joy last night!
She divulged that she and BFF Meryl Streep had made a pact before the Globes. "Meryl said she would speak at my Walk of Fame ceremony if I presented her the Cecil B. DeMille Award." Two powerhouses being amazing to one another. No big deal. "I still don't think it was a fair trade, but it allowed me to write her a love letter. And a love letter, not just as an artist to an artist, but a woman to a woman. It was a joy of my life." So sweet and now we totally want to set up a brunch date with these two.
It was all about prosecco, snacking on some apps, and the ambience at the party for Davis. "I love [the decor]. I think it's very hip, very modern, very celebratory. I love it. And I'm comfortable." If the How to Get Away with Murder star is impressed, then we're considering it a job well done. And as for her stunning, custom Michael Kors Collection gown? " I love the color. I love the comfort of it. I love the fact it's one shoulder." We loved it, too, and it was one of our favorites of the night.
She also disclosed that she absolutely loved Emma Stone's Valentino gown for the night. It was a reunion of sorts for The Help cast, as the two won big for the night, as well as having Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer there. "Octavia was in our jacuzzi today. We all got in the jacuzzi together." We never do this, but seriously: no invite, Viola? She continued, "She just came over to the house, so we chatted beforehand. And Emma, and the love that we still have when we see each other is amazing."
The Academy Award winning-actress also acknowledged two of her secret red carpet weapons. "My ballet slippers and my little Jo Malone perfume. In the Black Cedarwood scent." Davis is a woman after our own hearts, as we, too, are obsessed with all things Jo Malone.

And to end such a momentous night, it was all about winding down with her loving husband. "Me and my husband will take a shower, and we will get ready to go to bed, and end up talking in the kitchen for another hour."
