Stating the obvious: Maya Hawke looks just like her parents, Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke. It's not exactly a groundbreaking thing to point out, and we've waxed poetic about how similar Maya looks to her famous mom and dad, but on Monday night, she stood as a star in her own right.
The 19-year-old actress made her Met Gala debut, and while her famous mom was there in sight, they walked the carpet as individuals. They took that distinctiveness to new heights, though, when they chose dresses that were polar opposites, and yet somehow complimented one another.
Maya chose to wear a dark black gown with a keyhole cutout and a high, ruffled neckline that paid homage to the theme of the whole shebang: "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination."
Her look was high-necked and darkly sophisticated, leaving her arms bare of fabric or jewelry, instead opting for a KatKim ear pin. Her mom Uma, on the other hand, went a completely different route.
Instead of going gothic glam like her daughter, Thurman wore an angelic white bridal-like Gabriela Hearst gown, with a low off-the-shoulder neckline and statement-making colorful cross jewelry.
Their dresses are not similar, and yet, putting them next to each other, they look like they belong together.
Talk about mother-daughter dressing done right.
