Author Stephenie Meyer has announced she is releasing a new installment in the popular series over ten years after the publication of the last of the novels. Meyer will be publishing Midnight Sun, a retelling of the series from Edward Cullen’s perspective, 12 years after she abandoned the manuscript following an online leak. "I am very excited to finally, finally announce the release of Midnight Sun on August 4th," Meyer said, on Good Morning America. "It’s a crazy time right now and I wasn’t sure it was the right time to put this book out, but some of you have been waiting for just so so long it didn’t seem right to make you wait any more." Meyer had previously fueled speculation among fans with a countdown on her website leading up to Monday's announcement. When the manuscript for Midnight Sun was first leaked in 2008, Meyer called it "a huge violation of my rights as an author, not to mention me as a human being." She had shared a partial rough draft of the book on her website, but never released a completed story. In a statement to GMA about the upcoming release of the book, Meyer said, "I hope this book gives my readers a little pleasure to anticipate and, if it arrives, a chance to live in an imaginary world for a while. I can’t express how much I appreciate the patience of my readers, and their support over the years it took to finish Midnight Sun." After 10 Years, Does Twilight Hold Up? Calling all patient Twi-hards: August is just a few months away.
