Tom Hanks, Colin Farrell, Emma Thompson, and Julie Andrews Celebrate the Premiere of Saving Mr. Banks at Walt Disney Studios
Last night's premiere of Saving Mr. Banks at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California was practically perfect in every way thanks to an appearance by Mary Poppins herself, Julie Andrews! The iconic actress joined the film's cast including Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson, and Colin Farrell, who all star in the movie based on Walt Disney's efforts in obtaining the rights to P.L. Traver's magical story Mary Poppins (which took 20 years).
In the film, Hanks plays the celebrated Walt Disney, who after relentlessly charming the uncompromising Travers (Thompson), finally succeeded in 1961 and started production of the musical starring Dick Van Dyke (he also stepped out for the premiere) and Andrews, a role that would lead her to win her first Academy Award for Best Actress in 1965. With scenes chronicling the making of Mary Poppins including Travers' reactions to original songs, like "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" written by Robert B. and Richard M. Sherman (B.J. Novak and Jason Schwartzman), to flashbacks of her childhood in the Australian Outback with her father Travers Goff (Colin Farrell), the film undoubtedly ends in the most delightful way. Catch Saving Mr. Banks opening in theaters everywhere on December 20th.
