Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip's Relationship Is Strained in the First Look at The Crown Season 2
The first season of The Crown left off in some rocky territory for Queen Elizabeth (played by Claire Foy) and her free spirit of a husband, Prince Philip (Matt Smith). And in the first teaser for Season 2, their relationship as strained as ever.
While the Queen seems to be settling into her role as a ruler, her home life is still rocky. “I think [Queen Elizabeth] starts to realize she needs to pay more attention to her personal life now that the other part of her life is going all right,” Foy told Entertainment Weekly. “The world’s changing faster than anyone can catch up with. There is no letup. She just keeps having to go from one crisis to another to another, and at some point, it’s about five crises at the same time and you have no idea how she manages to get up in the morning.”

The second season covers the years from 1956 to 1964, and we will see Queen Elizabeth’s meeting with President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jackie Kennedy in the process. The series will also see the Queen as a mother, as she gave birth to both Prince Andrew and Prince Edward during that time period. And of course, Princess Margaret will be back with another eyebrow-raising romance.
Last season, The Crown earned 13 Emmy nominations, as well as a Golden Globe win for Foy’s portrayal of the Queen. Season 2 will be the last season starring Foy and Smith, as the third season features yet another time hop, and older actors will be brought in to star as the royal couple.
