Taylor Swift’s Patriotic Instagram Post Will Make You Want To Hit The Polls Today
Are you ... ready for it? Of course by "it" we mean the 2018 midterm elections, and by "ready" we mean registered to vote.
It looks like Taylor Swift sure is, and she wants you to be too. On Wednesday, the 27-year-old took to Instagram to share a photo of her very patriotic toes painted red, white, and blue, along with an inspiring caption urging her 112 million followers to vote early in the upcoming midterms. The star also provided a link for fans to look up their states early voting dates.
“Something I wish I knew when I was 18 and voting for the first time: EARLY VOTING,” Swift shared in the post. “It makes it so quick and easy to go and cast your vote before November 6. Early voting start Today in Tennessee and goes to Nov. 1.” (Notably, she disabled the comments.)
Swift has been historically reserved when it comes to speaking on her political preferences, but that all changed earlier this month when she posted a lengthy Instagram in which she voiced her support of LGBTQ rights as well as racial and gender equality. The post also came with an endorsement of Democratic candidates Phil Bredesen for the Senate and Jim Cooper for the House of Representative in her home state of Tennessee.
“In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very different about that now,” Swift said in the viral post.
The singer’s initial political Instagram is responsible for reportedly inspiring nearly 65,000 people to register to vote in a single 24 hours, according to data obtained by The Washington Post from Vote.Org, a non-partisan registration website which Swift called out. So no matter how you feel about Tay Tay, no one can deny that she’s using her influential platform for good.
With the November 6th election quickly approaching, we suggest you heed her advice. The last thing you want is some bad blood with Taylor.
