Taylor Swift Reportedly Pulled Out of Secret Performance at the 2020 Grammys

Despite being nominated for three awards at the 2020 Grammys, Taylor Swift reportedly will not be attending Sunday night's show. According to Variety, the singer had a surprise performance planned, but, now, that's no longer happening, as she is staying home for the fourth year in a row.

While Swift hasn't publicly confirmed nor denied the news, it's rumored she was going to perform her new album's feminist anthem "The Man," which would have taken on an even deeper meaning given the Recording Academy's recent allegations of corruption and sexual harassment.

This week, CEO Deborah Dugan filed a discrimination complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission against the Recording Academy, in which she made accusations of sexual harassment and improper voting conduct. A series of investigations were conducted into her allegations, and three weeks later she was placed on administrative leave.

The exact reasoning behind Taylor's dropping out is unclear, but Dugan's lawsuit may have been the tipping point. "It’s unconfirmed whether her quietly bowing out is directly related to the scandal involving the allegations flying back and forth between the Academy trustees and ousted CEO Deborah Dugan, though speculation that Swift might exit because of that was already rampant among insiders even before her MIA status was confirmed," Variety reported.

Considering Taylor's own outspoken perspective on sexism in politics and the music industry, it wouldn't be shocking if this is her way of taking a stand against the patriarchy. Talk about making power moves.
