A jumpsuit is a refreshing departure from your go-to LBD, so if you're stuck on what to wear to the impending holiday parties on your calendar, give one a try! The style packs just the right amount of sex appeal and unexpectedness while still remaining appropriate for any crowd.

When selecting your jumpsuit of choice, tailoring is key (as with anything, really). Look for a style that flows seamlessly over your body. You want to subtly carry that easy-breezy mood of the '70s. What's nice about the rise in popularity of a jumpsuit is that there are now so many options in the market—you can easily find the style that suits your taste. Want a wide-leg pant? Check. A long sleeve? Check. A DVF-wrap style? Check.

One of the biggest fans of the jumpsuit silhouette is Rebecca Taylor. The New York-based designer ceaselessly reinvents the jumpsuit—one example is the above style, which features a double set of straps ($425; We caught up with the designer for the full scoop on why she loves a jumpsuit.

“Jumpsuits are extremely comfortable and very versatile. You can easily dress a jumpsuit up or down," Taylor tells InStyle. "I find a jumpsuit is the more modern alternative to the LBD," she adds. In terms of styling a jumpsuit, Taylor tells us: “I love to style the jumpsuit with a great open toe bootie and a fun cropped jacket that you can take off for a night out." For those of you who are risk takers, take Taylor's advice: "I find wearing it with a fashion sneaker is equally as chic and again feels super modern.”
