Starbucks’s New Menu Item Is the Grain-Free Breakfast You’ve Been Looking for
Sous Vide Egg Bites are wheat-free egg patties packed with protein. The sous-vide technique immerses vacuum-sealed food in water and cooks it without extra fats and oils, making it a healthy alternative to an egg and cheese on a roll. "Time and time again, we learned that customers were ordering our breakfast sandwiches without the bread or requesting more vegetarian options," Starbucks brand manager Eveline Chao-Rivera said in a release.

The egg bites, which come in two different flavors, are Starbucks's attempt to fill that void. Bacon and Gruyere bites are made with cage-free eggs, aged Gruyere, and Monterey Jack cheese, and topped with Applewood-smoked bacon, coming in at 310 calories per two bites and 19 grams of protein.
For the vegetarians out there, Egg White and Roasted Red Pepper bites are made with Monterey Jack, cottage cheese, spinach, and roasted red pepper. Two bites have just 170 calories and 13 grams of protein.
"Sous-vide cooking offers an unbelievable texture to food unlike anything else," Chao-Rivera said. "It makes eggs velvety and creamy—almost like you're eating something indulgent, but you're not."
