Recreate This Star Wars-Inspired Makeup Look for Halloween Using Our Simple GIF Guide
On the hunt for the perfect Star Wars-inspired Halloween makeup look? Look no further. We teamed up with CoverGirl and their pro makeup artist Jennifer Fleming, who created the Chrome Captain look from the Star Wars campaign on InStyle Beauty Intern Maya Allen. A perfect complement to either a Stormtrooper or Darth Vader costume, the effect combines a graphic winged eye with futuristic metallic shadow—and is surprisingly easy to master. Use the force, and check out the step-by-step GIFs with instructions on how to recreate the look below.
Though filling in your brows with black liner would be a major faux pas at any other time in the year, the graphic effect works for this look in particular. Fleming picked up the Perfect Point Plus in Onyx ($6; drugstore.com) to trace the shape of Allen's arches.
With the same pencil, Fleming drew on the dramatic wing. She placed a business card at the outer edge of Allen's eye, lined up with her bottom lashes, as a guide to impart a crisp shape.
Fleming continued using the pencil and connected the outer wing to Allen's crease, then applied a layer of the inky noir hue from the Stunning Smokeys palette ($9; drugstore.com) over the top. She then went back with a Q-Tip dipped in eye makeup remover to clean up the shape of the lid and make it more precise.
Armed with a flat shadow brush, Fleming pressed the Bombshell Shine Shadow in Ice Queen ($9; drugstore.com) onto Allen's lids, and blended the color onto the inner corners of her eyes.
A few generous coats of the Dark Side Super Sizer Mascara ($8; drugstore.com) finished the out-of-this-world effect on the eyes.
In order to avoid any aggressive cleanup from the black shadow, Fleming applied foundation last, then played up the warmth in Allen's complexion by blending on the CoverGirl Clean Glow Blush in Peaches ($8; drugstore.com) on the apples of her cheeks.
The metallic lip tied each of the elements together. Fleming used a nude shade as the base color on Allen's lips to create a muted canvas, then applied a coat of the Colorlicious Lipstick in Silver ($8; drugstore.com) over the top.
