Winter may be about bold, rich hues, but we're looking forward to lightening up for spring. Color-free tips looked refreshingly chic at Proenza Schouler, Saint Laurent, and Valentino Spring 2015 runway shows, but make no mistake: This is hardly a low-maintenance look. Start with some filing. Nudes look best on short, round nails, says Michelle Saunders, Essie's lead manicurist. Then pile on not one but four coats of varnish. At Alexander Wang manicurists used two coats of Essie in Au Natural ($9;, followed by a ridge-filling base coat (like a BB cream for nails, says Saunders). Finish with a shiny topcoat.
