Shop for a Cause: Kate Spade's New Collection Creates Jobs for Women in Rwanda
If Kate Spade's cheery prints, feminine designs, and bright colors aren't enough to instantaneously put you in a good mood, here's some news that will: The brand has teamed up with local artisans in Rwanda for a new limited-edition collection with a purpose. Called On Purpose, the collection is handcrafted by 150 women in Masoro, a town in central Rwanda.
The goal behind On Purpose is to give these women economic stability, which Kate Spade & Company believes will in turn transform their community of 20,000 people. According to their website, this isn't a charity project—instead, the aim is to teach these artisans how to become valued suppliers in the global marketplace. After Masoro, Kate Spade will move on to another community, and another after that.
The collection is available through Kate Spade, Kate Spade Saturday, and Jack Spade. Each brand has its own pieces that are in line with its DNA, like a gingham pocket square for Jack Spade and a metallic friendship bracelet for Kate Spade. On Purpose is available starting today and ranges in price from $12 to $198.
