No matter what she’s wearing, we’re liable to want to steal Amal Clooney’s outfit.

The lawyer and high-profile mother of two stepped out in N.Y.C. on Thursday in a chic yet understated ensemble, pairing a long black Max Mara trench coat (shop a similar look here) with a matching tee, glam oversize shades, cropped plaid pants (shop a similar look here), and a set of tuxedo-like black-and-white pumps (shop a similar look here). She complemented the springtime look with her trusty leather Christian Dior handbag (shop a similar look here).

The 40-year-old’s street style streak comes just days after the release of her Vogue cover story, in which Clooney discussed the perceived divide between her fashion sense and her career. “I hate the idea that you somehow, as a human being, have to be put in a box,” she said. “There’s no reason why lawyers can’t be fun—or actresses can’t be serious.”

Whether she’s making moves on the red carpet or the humanitarian world stage, we can’t wait to see what Amal does next.
