Serena Williams was the picture of elegance at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding ceremony at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle, wearing a blush Versace dress and matching sky-high heels. But when it came time for the reception, the tennis pro kept it real by channeling her inner athlete.
By nightfall, Williams, who documented Meghan and Harry's big day on her Instagram stories, slipped out of her Versace ensemble in favor of a floral, floor-length gown by Valentino, and, her dress wasn't the only swap. The mom of one exchanged her stilettos for a comfy (and practical) pair of sneakers.
Apparently this isn't the first time the tennis champ has worn athletic shoes underneath her eveningwear. "Little known fact: I often wear sneakers under my evening gown," she wrote next to a video of her and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, walking to a bus that whisked them to the Frogmore House dinner reception hosted by Prince Charles.
She lifted up the gown's flowing skirt to reveal the black and white kicks, adding: "These @maisonvalentino @pppiccioli gave to me last min. I told him be careful I tend to be comfy for long nights."
With her 5'9" stature, Serena can easily get away with the stiletto-sneaker switch, and, when a long night of dancing is ahead, it's even more crucial that she's comfortable.
We're definitely taking Williams's lead when it comes to our wedding repertoire this summer!
