Serena Williams Is Attending the Royal Wedding After All
Just like Meghan Markle's dad, Serena Williams had us on the edge of our seats with the will-she or won't-she attend the royal wedding drama.
Now, the tennis star has indeed confirmed that she will attend Saturday morning's nuptials. Williams revealed earlier this week that she would not be participating in the French Open, leaving her schedule open to make an appearance. On Saturday, she made the news official on Instagram, writing "Follow my IG stories today to see me getting ready for my friends wedding."
On her Instagram Stories, Williams showed herself as well as daughter Alexis Olympia and her husband Alexis Ohanian getting ready for the big day. Williams rocked a blush-colored Versace ensemble and matching fascinator paired with a bold Bulgari statement necklace.
Williams and Markle are longtime pals, having met in September of 2014 after teaming up for a Celebrity Beach Bowl tournament.
Like Markle, Wiliams revealed that she, too, had wedding drama involving her dad ahead of her 2017 marriage to the Reddit co-founder. The tennis pro walked herself down the aisle after her dad couldn't make it. "I’m not going to be upset with you about it, so I don’t want you to be upset about it," she told her dad.
Markle is taking a cue from her pal by walking herself part way down the aisle, and then will be escorted by Prince Harry's dad, Prince Charles.
Even though she's used to having fans cheer her on, we know Williams will be Markle's biggest fan from the pews.
