Last night was a rough one for our favorite gladiator! Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) had a lot to contend with during a hostage negotiation—and she certainly had a fantastic suit to match. InStyle caught up with Scandal costume designer Lyn Paolo to chat specifics on Olivia’s look and more. “The periwinkle suit was Armani and luckily I had four of it as we needed multiples. It wasn’t a moment to be in white as she needed to feel like she was one of the hostages,” Paolo explained. “The Donna Karen coat she wore I found this summer, though it wasn’t in her color palette, but the coat changed color, on the hanger it looks gray, but when you put it with the suit it looked more blue, what a happy accident.” All the Scandal cast will continue to evolve this season so make sure to keep watching, “I love defining, we have gotten to a point on the show where my crew now knows a Fitz tie from a Cyrus tie and so on. As we go forward this season our fans will be surprised to see the huge character developments reflected in the color and tones of the clothes.” Click through the gallery for more details on this weeks looks and you can follow Lyn on twitter @lynpaolo to hear more about her #scandalfashion! Make sure to tune into Scandal on Thursdays 10/9c on ABC.
