How to Recreate Saoirse Ronan’s Perfectly Undone Updo
Why spend time perfecting your hairstyle when you can have a beautifully messy updo à la Saoirse Ronan? To nail the artfully tousled style seen on the star at the premiere of Brooklyn in New York City, start by creating loads of body and texture.
To prep for the look, hairstylist Adir Abergel first worked Leonor Greyl Au Lotus Volumizing Mousse ($46; nordstrom.com) from the roots to the mid-shaft before diffusing Ronan’s hair until it was completely dry. To create natural-looking waves, he wrapped sections of hair around a 3/4-inch curling iron, making sure to leave the ends out. Using a dab of Leonor Greyl Eclat Naturel Styling Cream ($46; nordstrom.com), the pro raked his hands through her hair, adding plenty of volume at the roots and crown.
For his next step, Abergel twirled the actress’s strands into a half French twist. “I pinned the half-twist into place, and then I took the flower headband and put it under the French twist, just above the nape,” he tells InStyle. “Whatever hair was left underneath, I twisted and then pinned into place with a few bobby pins, so it became a ponytail at the bottom. Then, I took a few of those hairs to cover half of the headband so it wasn’t completely exposed.”
A spritz of Leonor Greyl Laque Souple Styling Spray ($36; nordstrom.com) added a finishing touch.
