For Saoirse Ronan, Green Was the Only Choice for Her Oscars Dress
With the help of her stylist Elizabeth Saltzman, Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan brought a youthful, cool edge to the Academy Awards red carpet this evening. “Saoirse is 21 years old, and this Calvin Klein dress was about her being able to enjoy herself and this road that she’s been on for the last few months with Brooklyn,” says Saltzman. “We really wanted to embrace her body, and do it with a mix of confidence and sultry sophistication.”
Ronan, who previously wore Calvin Klein to the 2015 British Academy Britannia Awards in October, knew she wanted to wear green to tonight’s festivities as an homage to her Irish heritage, says Saltzman. “Her whole family is with her tonight—her mom, her aunt, her uncle—and just like the movie Brooklyn, she has only just moved to New York, so it was important to her to show her Irish pride. There was no other choice.” The custom dress was mapped to her body with intricate rectangular sequins, and featured a semi-transparent skirt.
To finish the look, Ronan and Saltzman chose a pair of Roger Vivier army green heels and Chopard earrings that were intentionally mismatched, made of diamonds, emeralds, natural pearls, and jadeites. “We didn’t go out thinking we wanted to pick two different earrings, but this set was so whimsical and fun, and really felt like Saoirse,” says Saltzman. “Again, she’s 21 years old, and while a bunch of huge diamonds may work great for a photo, it’s not believable. These earrings really accentuated her beauty. And she's going to have a lot of fun tonight.”
