August 29th will mark five years since Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, and the region continues to struggle today with the Gulf oil spill. Now celebrities like Sandra Bullock and Blake Lively are encouraging Americans to lend their voice in support of the restoration and protection of the Gulf Coast, starring in Restore the Gulf's "Be The One" campaign, launched by the grassroots organization Women of the Storm. "The Gulf Coast is an American treasure and its deterioration affects us all," Bullock said in a statement. "We are working on an unforgiving deadline," Anne Milling, founder of Women of the Storm, told us. "Wetlands across the Gulf Cast are essential for the U.S. economy, energy security, port operations, seafood supply and ecological and cultural diversity, but if we wait much longer these invaluable natural resources will be beyond repair. In short, the window of time for coastal restoration is closing. Our petition gives Americans who want to take action, something easy, yet meaningful to do." Watch the video campaign above.
