Don’t think Carol star Rooney Mara’s sheer-, netted-, neutral-, and often Alexander McQueen-driven approach to red carpet dressing makes her fittings any easier. In fact, as she told reporters Monday afternoon inside the 88th Oscar Nominees Luncheon in Beverly Hills, Calif., there’s no scientific method behind finding the dress.
Her gown of choice for this year’s Oscars is still up in the air. “I haven’t tried any on yet, actually,” she admitted. “Hopefully I will soon because time is ticking. I haven’t tried any on yet. It’s always different. Sometimes you try one on and that’s the one you want to wear, and sometimes you try 20 on and you still can’t find one. So hopefully it’ll be easy.”
Her awards show choices aren’t always predictable, however. Yes, the pieces she stepped forward in at this year’s Golden Globes and SAG Awards quietly spoke for themselves. But Mara evidently is looking to take up a few experiments. For the Oscars luncheon, she sported the above, ultra feminine, long-sleeved, floral Giambattista Valli dress. Is this a sign of what’s to come at the 2016 Oscars? We’ll surely tune in to find out.
