Robin Wright Demanded the Same Pay as Co-Star Kevin Spacey on House of Cards
Equal pay in Hollywood has been a hot topic as of late, and House of Cards star Robin Wright is joining the conversation. During a Rockefeller Foundation event, the actress revealed that she demanded to be paid the same as her co-star, Kevin Spacey. "I was like, 'I want to be paid the same as Kevin,'" she told those attending the event, the Huffington Post reports.
Wright's character Claire Underwood is the equally powerful foil to Spacey's Frank, so it makes perfect sense that they be compensated equally. "There are very few films or TV shows where the male, the patriarch, and the matriarch are equal, and they are in House of Cards,” she added. Both Wright and Spacey have appeared in all 52 episodes and served as executive producers for the most recent season.
The actress also leverged her character's popularity on the hit Netflix series. "Claire Underwood’s character was more popular than [Frank’s] for a period of time. So I capitalized on it. I was like, ‘You better pay me or I’m going to go public,’ And they did." Bravo!
