We remember Alexander McQueen as a true visionary who left indelible marks on the fashion world. Today, on would've been his 46th birthday, we're taking an extra moment to commemorate the British designer's life.

Although he tragically ended his life five years ago, McQueen continues to have a strong presence in the sartorial sphere because of his unique and influential designs. He made an impact as a chief designer at Givenchy, but the avant-garde creations that stemmed from his namesake label are what stood out as favorites among celebrities and industry giants alike.

"His radical and fearless vision changed the way we look at fashion," says Claire Wilcox, the senior curator of fashion at London's Victoria & Albert Museum, which currently houses a larger-than-life exhibit dedicated to McQueen.

Actress Noomi Rapace echoes the sentiment: "He went on his own path. He didn't compromise," Rapace says. "His work will always live."
