Reese Witherspoon Is Returning to Her Rom-Com Roots

With not one, but *two* new movies.

After a few years of expanding her filmography into prestige TV and high drama, Reese Witherspoon is returning to the rom-com roles we all know and love her for. Deadline reports Witherspoon is boarding not one, but two Netflix romantic comedies.

The first movie, Your Place or Mine, will follow two long-distance best friends, one of whom decides to pursue a lifelong dream while the other volunteers to keep an eye on her teenage son. The movie will be written by Aline Brosh McKenna, whose writing credits include The Devil Wears Prada and The CW's Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

The second, The Cactus, is based on Sarah Haywood bestselling novel, which revolves around a 45-year-old woman who has an unexpected pregnancy, causing her to restructure her life. Witherspoon has notably been a fan of the novel, having selected it as a pick for her book club last summer.

"I found myself laughing out loud at Susan’s prickly character as she finds herself in a love triangle, navigating family ties and dealing with 9 months of pregnancy at the age of 45," she said at the time. "Hope y’all love Susan as much as I do!”

Witherspoon will produce both films under her Hello Sunshine banner.

Witherspoon hasn't starred in a true romantic comedy since 2017's Home Again, so prepare yourselves for what sounds like two excellent returns to form.
