Reese Witherspoon Opens Her First Draper James Store in Nashville
Reese Witherspoon may have pretended to be a burgeoning fashion designer as Melanie Smooter in Sweet Home Alabama, but 13 years after taking up the role, the film couldn’t portray the starlet’s career trajectory any better. Yesterday in Nashville, Tenn., Witherspoon’s Southern-inspired Draper James fashion and lifestyle brand opened its first official brick-and-mortar shop and the results are charmingly low-key.
Yes, the store boasts 3,000-square-feet of space inside, but it’s the blue-hued, quaint décor that gives the location a lived-in burst of country-like hospitality. “I grew up in Nashville and it’s been such a direct inspiration for the brand,” Witherspoon told WWD. “It just felt like the right place for our flagship.” The store is awash with floral prints and bold colors that reflect the preppy and always put-together aesthetic of the star’s beloved brand.
Witherspoon, who clearly has a knack for fun DIY family projects and an eye for interior design, took to Instagram to share the exciting news. “I am so proud!!! The first ever @draperjamesgirl store is officially open in #Nashville!! 2608 12th Avenue South!” she wrote as her caption. In the image (below), it’s clear that the building looks just like any adorable Nashville home with windows created to reflect a front porch and horseshoe, magnolia, and emerald lawn imagery adorning the interior.

And while the store has all of the essentials (sunglasses, shoes, handbags, and fanciful separates), it’s ultimately meant to feel like a home, with the entrance designed to look like a living room and a series of stools in place to look like a kitchen island. “We wanted the back entrance to feel like a mud room,” Mark Sikes, the store’s interior designer, told WWD. “There’s a white bench with pillows and hooks for coats.”
Yes y'all! Our very first @DraperJamesGirl store is opening this week in #Nashville! Here's a sneak peek of our signature #DraperJames stripes inside the store! Stay tuned for more. #DJDebut #Flagship

So what’s next for the brand? A new store is expected to soon open in Dallas and others will follow across the South in cities like Charleston, S.C., and Atlanta. Witherspoon, we think Smooter would be proud.
