Get a Behind-the-Scenes Look at Reese Witherspoon's Oscars Makeup Look
Reese Witherspoon is a red carpet veteran who never fails find a gorgeous beauty look to complement her award show style. For the 2016 Oscars, Witherspoon’s red-washed lip was the perfect accent to her vibrant purple Oscar de la Renta gown.
InStyle got the complete breakdown of Witherspoon’s winning beauty look from her makeup artist for the night, Molly R. Stern, and a peek at the behind-the-scenes fun as the star prepared for Hollywood’s biggest night.
“The key: Gorgeous makeup starts with gorgeous skin. I really believe in keeping things fresh and not caked on with foundation,” Stern says. To give Witherspoon her dewy complexion, Stern first prepped the actress's skin by spritzing on an invigorating facial spray and then massaged in RéVive Intensité Moisture Serum Extrême ($365; reviveskincare.com) to lock in the moisture. She finished things off by applying RéVive Intensité Crème Lustre Day ($385; reviveskincare.com) to increase elasticity and boost the skin’s youthful glow. Since Witherspoon was going to be wearing a vivid hue on her lips, Stern treated them with RéVive Intensité Lip Balm ($60; reviveskincare.com) to ensure an even application of the lip color to last through the night.
Moving on to makeup: Stern evened out Witherspoon’s complexion by applying Chantecaille Future Skin Foundation ($76; chantecaille.com) sparingly where needed. Next, she moved onto Witherspoon’s cheeks and enhanced the hollows of her cheeks using True Isaac Mizrahi in Chestnut ($24; naturalbeautygroup.com), a neutral contour shade, and then added color to the apples of Witherspoon’s cheeks using Chantecaille Cheek Gelée in Happy ($39; chantecaille.com) and went over it with Chantecaille Cream Blush in Flair ($26; chantecaille.com) for an even dewier finish.
To keep Witherspoon’s lids bright, Stern painted her lash line with a crème liner and went over it with Chantecaille Luster Glide Silk Infused Eye Liner in Violet Damask ($29; chantecaille.com), which made the color slightly more subtle. Next, she dusted the shimmery gold shadow in the Chantecaille Luxe Eye Duo in Laguna ($58; chantecaille.com) all over the lids and under the lash line. For an added gloss, Stern topped the eye off with a coat of Jillian Dempsey’s Lid Tint in Peach ($28; jilliandempsey.com). Finally, to add even more drama to the eyes, Stern curled Witherspoon’s lashes and coated them twice with black volumizing and lengthening mascara, concentrating on the edges.
